Diodes - Bridge RectifiersThe KBPC1502W is a bridge rectifier, a solid-state device of diodes consisting of four externally connected in a bridge configuration with opposite polarity. This diode bridge offers high-performance quality, full reverse voltage protection and a high current capability of up to 15A. It is predominantly used in high-efficiency power supplies, fibre-optic transmitters and receivers, non-isolated AC-DC converters and DC-DC converters.
In addition to its use in power supplies, the KBPC1502W can also be securly used in industrial and commercial apparatus, including battery chargers, motors, power inverters and medical equipment.
A bridge rectifier converts the general AC voltage supply to a DC voltage and is the power stage behind almost all modern domestic and industrial appliances and equipment, performing the vital task of transferring the AC power from the mains to a constant DC. The KBPC1502W has a wide input voltage range and can withstand up to 900V of blocking voltage, providing a consistent and efficient power output.
For industrial applications, the reliability of the KBPC1502W is extremely beneficial, as it is given an enhanced lifespan by the slow-recovery doping process, and is extremely impervious to transient interference like over current, overvoltage and reverse voltage.
KBPC1502W bridge rectifiers take a source of AC power, like a wall outlet and convert it into a unidirectional voltage usable by DC loads too. This device works as follows: the AC source is connected to two of the bridge rectifier’s diode terminals (known as legs), and the DC output is taken from the other two terminals. During the positivegoing half-cycle of the AC wave, the upper and lower diodes D1 and D4 will be forward-biased, and during the negative-going half-cycle, the upper and lower diodes D2 and D3 will be made to conduct.
The working of bridge rectifiers are based on PN-junction diodes, made from a type of semiconductor material such as silicon, germanium and gallium arsenide. These materials have one side doped with a material of a different electrical polarity then the other, forming a PN-junction. Through this, a diode will only allow the current flow through it in one direction, blocking it in the other. This is known as rectification, which is the process of converting alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC).
KBPC1502W bridge rectifiers also offer additional advantages as they reduce the inevitable power loss as a result of alternative rectification methods, and its response rate to changing load currents is substantially increased. This is because the KBPC1502W diodes are integrated together and are able to respond instantaneously to any heavy changes in the amount of current in the system.
