KDC5512-50EVAL Application Field and Working PrincipleAnalog to Digital Converters (ADCs) are electronic circuits that convert analog signals into digital signals for use by a variety of devices. The KDC5512-50EVAL is a high-performance, 12-bit, 50MSPS ADC evaluation board from Texas Instruments. It features a high-speed Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) designed to solve many modern system design challenges. This evaluation board can be used in a wide variety of applications such as medical imaging, communications, radar, automotive, industrial, and consumer electronics.The KDC5512-50EVAL supports sample rates up to 50MSPS and features a 12-bit linearity. It features a very high level of performance, with an effective noise free dynamic range (ENOB) of 11.6 bits, spurious free dynamic range (SFDR) of more than 85dBc, and signal-to-noise and distortion ratio (SNDR) of more than 90dBc. The evaluation board also features integrated multiplexers (MUX) for input as well as output signal conditioning, making it suitable for both unipolar and bipolar signals.The main operating principle of the KDC5512-50EVAL is based on sample and hold technology. The ADC first acquires the input signal and stores it in an internal sample and hold capacitor. It then converts the analog sample into a digital word. The ADC proceeds to sample and digitize the input signals independently of each other until a full resolution output is produced.The sample and hold circuitry contains two components: the sampling capacitor and the sample and hold switch. The sampling capacitor captures the input voltage at that moment and charges or discharges each time the sample and hold switch is transitioned. The sample and hold switch is used to control the timing of when the capacitor is allowed to charge or discharge.The digital output of the ADC is based on the charge or voltage stored on the sampling capacitor. The ADC measures the gap between the predicted position and the actual position and produces an error based on the difference. This error is then amplified and used to produce the digital output word.The KDC5512-50EVAL enables users to evaluate the performance of the device in virtually any system environment, making it an ideal tool for the evaluation of high-performance ADCs. It also has on-board support for a variety of low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) and pulse-width modulation (PWM) output standards, as well as external interfaces for digital and analog signals. Furthermore, the evaluation board is RoHS compliant, which ensures that it is free of hazardous substances, protecting both the environment and users.In summary, the KDC5512-50EVAL is a high-performance, 12-bit, 50MSPS ADC evaluation board from Texas Instruments.
