NTC thermistors are temperature sensors widely used in industrial, automotive, aircraft and medical applications. They are also commonly used in heating and air conditioning systems to monitor temperatures in indoor and outdoor environments.The KX103G2 is a NTC thermistor from Murata Electronics. The KX103G2 is a RoHS compliant thermistor that is UL certified for use in hazardous areas.The KX103G2 thermistor consists of a ceramic core surrounded by a metal nickel-cobalt-iron alloy. The core contains sensitive NTC materials which are sensitive to temperature changes. A protective epoxy sheath surrounding the core improves the thermistor’s insulation and resistance to corrosion.The thermistor’s working principle is based on a fact that electrical resistance of certain materials changes when exposed to different temperatures. This is known as the Seebeck effect. The KX103G2 thermistor works using this principle. When the thermistor is exposed to a change in temperature, its internal resistance changes accordingly. This change in resistance is measured externally and converted to a corresponding temperature value.The thermistor is rated from -55°C to +100°C with a nominal temperature sensitivity of 3mV/°C, depending on the application environment. This specific range makes the KX103G2 suitable for numerous temperature sensing applications. The KX103G2 has a standard TCP lead length of about 2.3”, allowing it to be easily mounted and plugged into commercial thermocouples sockets.The KX103G2 thermistor is also widely used in automated test systems, process control systems, and engine diagnostic systems. It can also be used for monitoring and controlling temperature in medical and safety related applications.
