This type of device is used in the control of high power electrical systems, such as those used in home automation and appliances.

Application Fields

The L6004V3TP is most commomly used for AC switching and phase control applications. As it is a bidirectional SCR, it can control current flowing in both directions. It is perfect for switching AC power control and dimming applications, as it can provide precise, variable, and fast control over AC loads without the need for an additional control circuit. It is also used in Industrial and Automotive applications.

Working Principle

A TRIAC is an electronic component that works in a similar way as an SCR. Essentially, it is a pair of p-n-p-n silicon switches connected back-to-back, allowing current to flow in both directions. When the voltage across the SCR reaches a predetermined threshold, it will turn on.

When a positive voltage is applied to the gate of the TRIAC, the p-n junction between the turns on, allowing current to flow in the positive direction. This is known as the “forward-blocking state”. When the voltage across the SCR reaches the predetermined threshold, it will turn on. In this state, known as the “forward-conduction state”, current will flow in both directions.

When a negative voltage is applied to the gate, the SCR will enter into the “reverse-blocking state”, and will not allow current to flow in the reverse direction. However, when the voltage across the SCR reaches the predetermined threshold, it will turn on. This state is known as the “reverse-conduction state”, and will allow current to flow in both directions.

By controlling the amount of current that flows in either direction, the TRIAC can be finely tuned to meet the needs of the application.
