The internal primary-side regulator assists in controlling the power and improving the system efficiency, while the adaptive on-time control feature helps reduce the total cost by eliminating the need of an external clock source.The L6699D employs a quasi-resonant mode (QRM) of operation and a synchronous flyback converter design. This allows it to quickly shut down the output when the load is shorted, which helps protect the complete system from damage. The primary switching FET is controlled through a programmable constant current current-mode (CCM) pulse width modulator (PWM). This helps prevent over-loading the input voltage and protects components from damage, as the frequency does not depend on the load. The IC also employs an Enhanced Pre-Biased Start-up Magna-Start (EPBS) circuit, which allows the device to start up from the lowest input voltage, regardless of the load.
