The L78M15ABDT-TR is devices of voltage regulators that join the Linear family of PMICs. This devices offer up to 2.5 A output current and integrated high-side an low-side current sensing. This device is perfect for powering embedded systems with its space-efficient, low power dissipative packages.
The L78M15ABDT-TR features an integrated 3-pin voltage reference. The voltage reference pin (REF) is connected to the regulator output, allowing the user to adjust the output voltage. The bi-directional load current flow is measured by an integrated internal Hall sensor. Between the low side current sense pin (ISEN1) and high side current sense pin (ISEN2) an open drain logic signal is given. This signal is proportional to the load current and can be used to control the power output or to generate interrupts.
The L78M15ABDT-TR reports the open circuit voltage (OVC) using ON/OFF logic over the OVC pin. When the load current is over the OVC limit, this pin will output a logic 1. A logic 0 is output when the load currents is within the standard operating conditions. The three-level OVC/UVC protection improves the reliability and safety of the power system.
The L78M15ABDT-TR provides an adjustable over-temperature protection utilizing the NTC pin. A thermistor provides a feed back signal to the regulator via the NTC pin, reducing the output of the device when the NTC temperature rises over the desired limit. Other features of the L78M15ABDT-TR include a POR, brown-out and soft-start systems to avoid overcurrent, undervoltage and overvoltage.
