The L9678PTR family of interface ICs offers an integrated solution to provide power management for LCD, LED, OLED displays and panel-level touch solutions. It integrates an integrated power stage, pre-charge current, and power management into a single device. The L9678PTR enables designers to reduce component count and component area while providing superior power performance and improved system reliability.In many applications such as laptop LCD touch-screen displays, the L9678PTR enables a high level of efficiency, accuracy and robustness in operation. For example, it can detect the maximum pixel brightness of a display and adjust its power settings accordingly. It can also detect sudden changes in panel current, allowing for the power supply to switch to pre-charge current quickly.The L9678PTR operates in two different modes: static and dynamic. In static mode, the IC is powered from the main power supply and automatically adjusts the brightness of the LCD or LED display. In dynamic mode, the L9678PTR uses a combination of dynamic current source technology and a built-in LED driver to adjust the brightness of the display without compromising the display’s total power budget.The L9678PTR includes three power management channels, which can be used to drive either LCD or LED displays. Each power management channel includes a high-current clock, adjustable current sense, and adjustable power output. The adjustable current sense allows the power management channel to respond to changes in power levels or incoming signals and adjust the power levels accordingly.The L9678PTR also features several additional features designed to optimize the power and performance of displays. It includes an internal temperature sensor that can be used to measure the temperature of the display, allowing for the power management channel to adjust its power settings accordingly. The L9678PTR also includes an integrated step-down converter and low-dropout regulator to further optimize the power management of the device.Finally, the L9678PTR includes a watchdog and general-purpose timer to protect against failure in the power supply. The watchdog timer monitors the power supply and can be set to a predefined time interval for protection against unexpected power supply failures.
