Working Principle

The LA120X251 operates by responding to the current flowing through its heating element. When the current is switched on, the heating element warms up and causes a bimetallic strip in the fuse to bend. This bend causes the main contacts to open, effectively disconnecting the circuit. If the heat is not dissipated quickly, the fuse will stay open for a preset time, thus not allowing a restart until after the specified time has lapsed.

This time-delay feature of the LA120X251 adds a level of safety to circuits. In the event of an overcurrent or short-circuit, the fuse propitiates a buffer time for the circuit components to cool off before the fault is cleared. This gives the circuit time to reset itself without sustaining any additional damage.
