Film capacitors or plastic film capacitors are electrical capacitors with a dielectric usually made of thin plastic film including polyester (mylar), polypropylene (PP), polycarbonate (PC), polystyrene (PS), teflon, and their derivatives. Film capacitors are widely used in various electronic circuits. These capacitors are used for various applications such as for power supply and for decoupling, for filtering, for coupling, for EMI and RFI suppression, for pulse shaping, for motor and transformer starts, as timing elements in circuits and as voltage dividers.

Film capacitors have low equivalent series resistance (ESR) and high current-handling capacity, making them ideal for filtering, decoupling, and other switching power supply and high power applications.
