LDU4860S300-WD is ideal for driving LEDs in High Brightness light (HBLED) applications such as automotive, Industrial, Medical, and General Lighting applications. The device is also optimal for powering ultra-high current LEDs used in backlight units for displays, as well as lighting assemblies found in fluorescent lamp replacements or gradient lighting. It has been specifically designed to comply with automotive quality standards and is capable of driving LEDs directly from a 24V (or higher) battery supply.

LDU4860S300-WD Working Principle

The LDU4860S300-WD is an integrated switched-mode LED driver operating from a wide input voltage range of 7 to 60 VDC. The dynamic adaptive input voltage control enables the device to adapt to input voltage variations, while providing a stable output current regulation. The integrated switching frequency and output current can be programmed using two external resistors.

The main feature of this driver is its extremely low quiescent current, which is only 6 μA at no load, which results in an excellent power efficiency of up to 96% at light load conditions. Additionally, the integration of fast dynamic input voltage control enables the input voltage to vary without the need to readjust the LED current. This ensures stable output current regulation even in changing ambient temperature and/or input voltage conditions.

LDU4860S300-WD includes Load Discharge and Thermal Shutdown functions. Load Discharge prevents excessive voltage across the LEDs by reducing the output current when the output voltage increases above the LED forward voltage, protecting the LED from overvoltage damage. Thermal shutdown shuts down the output current upon exceeding a predetermined temperature and allows it to start up again when temperature has dropped to the appropriate level to avoid thermal damage.

In addition, this cutting-edge device is also equipped with wide operating temperature range of -40 to 125°C, as well as ESD and surge protection capabilities for automotive use, making it an ideal solution for driving LEDs.
