LM10502EVM is an offline DC/DC and AC/DC switch mode power supply (SMPS) evaluation board. It is designed to evaluate and optimize the performance of Texas Instruments’ LM10502 family of non-isolated DC/DC and AC/DC SMPS products in a wide variety of applications. The LM10502EVM is a compact and cost effective solution that can be used to quickly design and build a wide variety of switched mode power supply (SMPS) applications employing Texas Instruments’ LM10502 family of devices.
The LM10502EVM consists of two boards, a Texas Instruments’ LM10502 evaluation board and an output board. The LM10502 evaluation board includes two integrated circuit (IC) sockets that are pre-populated with LM10502 device samples. The evaluation board also includes required passive components, such as inductors, transformers and capacitors, to make an operational SMPS. The output board provides the necessary output wiring connections.
The LM10502EVM offers an easy-to-use platform to evaluate quick performance data for a variety of applications. It enables users to interactively adjust the operating parameters of the LM10502 device to determine switch-mode power supply performance and usability for a specific application. Users can also assess the device’s capability to operate under varying input line voltage conditions and determine the most suitable operating conditions for their desired application.
The LM10502EVM board supports several topologies and modes including forward, flyback, synchronous rectification buck, and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) buck topologies. The board offers a wide range of features such as voltage and current-mode control support, operating frequency adjustment, voltage feed-forward, current sensing, pre-biased start-up, forced mode, and soft-start. The built-in switching frequency synchronization option allows the user to synchronize the LM10502 device to an external clock source.
For DC/DC applications, the LM10502EVM offers adjustable output voltage and adjustable output current ranging from 0-18 VDC and up to 3 A. For AC/DC applications, the LM10502EVM supports universal input voltage (90 - 264 VAC) which can be configured for single phase or split phase operation. The LM10502EVM has an efficient thermal design that has been optimized for the target application and provides excellent thermal performance, improving the reliability and robustness of key components, such as the platform MOSFET.
The evaluation board also offers a range of software features that allow the user to quickly analyze, configure and debug the design. The built-in EEPROM allows users to store default settings and retrieve them for future use. The EVM also has built-in LED diagnostics to indicate the status of the system. The user can use the push button switches to access different modes of operation and provide additional configuration options.
The LM10502EVM is an ideal solution for a wide range of applications such as LED lighting, white goods, industrial drives, automotive, and building automation. It enables users to quickly and cost effectively evaluate and optimize the performance of the LM10502 device in a variety of applications and conditions.
