Evaluation boards are used in a wide range of applications, from precision instrumentation and audio equipment to automated test systems. The LM10507EVM-A evaluation board is designed to enable designers to quickly and comprehensively evaluate and test the performance of the LM10507S switching regulator. This evaluation board is a low power DC/DC & AC/DC (off-line) SMPS system.
The LM10507S is a high-frequency, low-noise, constant-on-time (COT) synchronous switch mode regulator. This regulator has an efficient current-mode synchronous rectifier and is optimized for operating with ceramic input and output capacitors. The LM10507S uses an innovative COT-ML (constant-on-time & constant-duty-cycle mode limit) control which provides faster transient response, high-efficiency, and low-noise operation. This device can regulate an output range from 0.8V to 24V with an input voltage range from 4.5V to 16V. This device also has a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 40V. The LM10507S also has integrated low-ESR bypass and logic-level enable modes.
The LM10507EVM-A Evaluation Board is well designed to offer a complete function test and evaluation platform for the LM10507S switching regulator. The Evaluation Board uses the Precision TL431-based Reference Voltage source on the +VIN/-VIN side for testing and evaluation purposes. The IC is pre-adjusted to set for the best performance at the user selected output voltage. With the addition of external resistors, users can configure the output voltage and other parameters connected to the device\'s pins for testing and simulation purposes.
The Evaluation Board features an external logic-level enable circuit which allows the LM10507S to be enabled/disabled or "slow enabled." This feature eliminates external discretes for cost savings and reliability. The Evaluation Board also provides a Soft Start circuit which ensures a smooth transition of the output voltage from 0V to the desired levels. This soft start helps reduce the input inrush current during start-up and ensure current limiting during output overload operation.
The Evaluation Board also includes a programmable load device to provide testing of the LM10507 under different loading conditions.The built-in Protek Load Adjustment circuit allows users to adjust the Protek load to five different ranges (50mA, 100mA, 200mA, 400mA, and 800mA). This feature is designed to simulate various loading conditions with only one test configuration.
The LM10507EVM-A Evaluation Board also features complete protection circuitry to protect the board from overvoltage and overcurrent conditions. Overvoltage protection circuitry is provided to protect the board from out of range input voltages and output voltages, while overcurrent protection on both the input and output of the board is provided to protect the board from over-current conditions. Other features of the evaluation board include open loop test, electrical specifications, output ripple rejection measurements, transient response analysis, and power supply noise tests.
