LM258ADR is a dual operational amplifier in a 8 pin dual-in-line package. This op-amp includes two independent high gain, internally compensated,N-channel junction isolated transistors. It is a monolithic integrated circuit featuring internally frequency compensated wide gain bandwidth and low noise. LM258ADR is primarily a low cost alternative to the higher precision single and dual op-amps.

Application field: LM258ADR has a wide range of applications including active filters, data conversion circuits, audio amplifiers, telephone circuits, switching and multiplexing circuits and so on. Due to its wide gain bandwidth and low noise, LM258ADR is well suited for applications such as audio frequency compressor/expander with bandwidths as low as 7 Hz and as high as 1 MHz.

Working principle: The LM258ADR dual op-amp configuration is formed with two fully independent sets of N-channel junction isolated transistors. Each of these transistor sets is connected to separate sets of input and output buffers which are in turn connected to the non-inverting and inverting inputs. The inputs are further connected to the output buffers which drive the output of the op-amp. The output buffers amplify the incoming signal, isolating the input and output stages. This isolation reduces the possibility of distortion caused by internal feedback. The output of the op-amp is then either used as the control signal for a system or as the output of a circuit.

The inputs of the LM258ADR are very sensitive to EMC noise and require careful layout in order to minimize this noise. The output stage of the device utilizes a low-impedance output buffer to minimize distortion and provides a driven voltage swing of up to 10V. The device utilises a rail-to-rail operational ability enabling its use in circuits from rail-to-rail. This enables its use in circuits from rail-to-rail operation.
