The LM3248EVM is an easy-to-use low-cost evaluation platform designed to help customers evaluate and prototype all aspects of the LM3248A Off-Line Switcher IC, a monolithic high-performance switching regulator. The LM3248EVM greatly reduces design time by eliminating the need to build and debug the converter, by directly demonstrating the wide operating range of the available chips. Furthermore, the wide variety of tests, including efficiency, reliability and performance, may be undertaken directly to realize the greatest potential advantages of the LM3248A.
The LM3248EVM application field comprises of both DC/DC and AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS circuits.
To fully understand the LM3248EVM components and their functions, an examination of the main building blocks of the evaluation board platform is necessary.
The DC-DC section of the platform includes a low-ripple power supply, a high-voltage input voltage regulator, a high-performance buck/boost switching regulator, and an adjustable step-down switching regulator. With the low-ripple power supply being the primary power source, its output (Vout1) supplies the LM3248A with a regulated 5V. This 5V rail provides the power to the ICs on the board, which also includes the necessary support and decoupling Capacitors.
The high-voltage input voltage regulator (U1) provides a highly regulated Vinput to the LM3248A\'s switching regulator. The LM3248A\'s high-performance buck/boost switching regulator produces a Vcore (Vout2) which is adjustable from 0.8V to the input voltage. The adjustable step-down switching regulator (U2) produces Vaux (Vout3) which is also adjustable from 0.8V to the input voltage.
The AC-DC section of the platform includes a rectifier bridge, a linear voltage regulator, and an adjustable high-performance isolated DC/DC converter. The rectifier bridge converts an AC input voltage into a DC input voltage, which is then fed to a low dropout (LDO) linear voltage regulator (U3), whose output is the regulated +5V supply of the LM3248A. Finally, the adjustable high-performance DC/DC converter (U4) produces a Vaux (Vout4) which is adjustable from 0.8V to the input voltage.
In designing their application, customers can make sure to optimize the circuit topology that works best for their particular situation. The ability to easily select and configure various component settings and observe all of the features of their customized circuit is a major benefit of using the LM3248EVM. The graphical user interface (GUI) also acts as a virtual oscilloscope, allowing customers to observe critical waveforms and measure other important parameters.
Because of its efficient power delivery and extended operating temperature range, the LM3248A is ideal for both cost and performance-sensitive applications. Its efficient operation, as well as its ability to operate in a wide variety of environments, is an important advantage for a wide variety of applications. The LM3248EVM works together with the LM3248A to provide customers with a comprehensive and proven platform on which they can confidently design a variety of DC/DC and AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS circuits.
