The LM4860M is an audio amplifier application found in a variety of devices from home theater systems to car audio systems. The output stage is a class-AB amplifier consisting of two N-channel MOSFETs. The output transistors provide improved linearity and distortion reduction. The outputs of the amplifier stage are fed into the bridge-tied load (BTL) output stage. Here, the outputs and outputs of the amplifier are connected to opposite terminals of the speaker.
The LM4860M has a built-in mute circuit in order to prevent clicks or pops when the system is powered on or off. This mute circuit can be enabled by connecting the mute pin to a low voltage, or using an external switch. The mute circuit allows for a low-noise start up and shut down without having to add any external components.
