The LM8850UREV/NOPB is a high performance, full bridge AC/DC universal offline switcher IC that integrates pulse-width modulation (PWM analog control), power factor correction (PFC) and zero-voltage changeover (ZVC) for both single-phase and three-phase power supply topology. The integrated diverless synchronous rectification [SR] reduces power supply losses and eliminates temperature derating requirements at high power operations. The integrated PWM/PFC control IC offers extensive protection functions, as well as low-power, low-standby consumption, and both push-pull and half-bridge topologies.
In DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS applications, the LM8850UREV/NOPB offers improved efficiency and reduced power losses through its integration of SR, PWM and PFC. Compared to conventional DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS topologies, the LM8850UREV/NOPB offers significant benefits. For instance, power dissipation losses are minimized, as the SR reduces power dissipation. This allows for greater efficiency and power savings. Additionally, the built-in PWM, PFC and ZVC circuits can optimize power conversion efficiency and reduce harmonic distortion. This improves system performance and allows for improved power quality.
The LM8850UREV/NOPB is designed for use in a wide variety of applications requiring DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS. The LM8850UREV/NOPB can also be used in single ended or multi-phase AC/DC applications, including mains powered applications that require Power Factor Correction (PFC).
The working principle of the LM8850UREV/NOPB can be divided into three main parts. The first part is the SR synchronization, which is achieved by providing the synchronization signal through the timing pin to drive the SR elements. Second, the PWM/PFC control section uses information from the timing pin to appropriately adjust the duty cycle and timing of the switch controllers. Lastly, the ZVC circuit integrates the four SR elements and the output rectifier circuit to ensure a seamless transition and reduce losses at start up and shutdown.
