LMV822IST Application Field and Working Principle

The LMV822IST Integrated Operational Amplifier (IOA) is an amplifier designed to provide an increased performance level compared to traditional operational amplifiers with the same power consumption and cost. This IOA offers excellent common mode rejection, bias current and superior noise immunity, making it ideal for applications such as signal conditioning, data acquisition, test equipment and instrumentation.

The LMV822IST is used primarily in linear and instrumentation applications, such as current monitoring, voltage monitoring, gain control, conditioning, and general signal processing. Additionally, it is also used in medical, telecom, and industrial control systems for purpose such as temperature, pressure, and humidity measurement. The LMV822IST has a wide range of operating power supply voltage from 4.5V to 16V; a wide range of common-mode input voltage from -2.5V to +7.5V; and an impressive low supply current of 5mA.

The LMV822IST features an internal shutdown process that enables it to draw a supply current of only 5µA, which is beneficial in battery-powered applications. As expected with its low current, the LMV822IST has good power supply rejection and stability. The low power supply current provides excellent temperature stability and low output noise. This IOA also exhibits excellent accuracy and precision even in the presence of severe temperature effects.

In order to ensure proper amplification, the LMV822IST has an input resistance of 500 kΩ and a capacitance of 150pF. The output current is limited to 15mA and the supply current is limited to 5mA.

The LMV822IST can be used to provide direct drive of transducers, such as strain gauges, accelerometers and pressure sensors. The amplifier can also be used for frequency filtering and signal conditioning applications. Furthermore, the excellent common-mode rejection (CMRR) of the LMV822IST makes it suitable for noise abatement and interference rejection.

The LMV822IST is resistant to electrical noise from power supplies, light or intense lighting, or other sources in industrial environments, as well as its high input voltage range make it ideal for applications that require battery power or floating supply voltages. Its excellent speed and gain bandwidth performance, achieved through post-layout optimization on an acoustic emission laboratory test system, make it suitable for applications where precise signal resolution and low error rates are desired. In line with its low power requirement, this operational amplifier also has minimal thermal runaway (0.25°C/W).
