The LMZ10504DEMO/NOPB is an evaluation board for DC/DC and AC/DC switching power supplies (SPS). It describes the hardware, software, and operation of the SPS circuits, as well as the basic design strategies for creating efficient power supplies. The board helps engineers troubleshoot, simulate, and optimize their power supply designs.The LMZ10504DEMO/NOPB evaluation board is designed to reduce risk and complexity of power design. It is a low-cost solution for applications ranging from personal electronics to lighting, to industrial, and more. Onboard testing capabilities includes a power supply test fixture, which is a custom fixture connected to the board for measuring power supply performance. There is also a microcontroller based software for setting up power supply parameters.The LMZ10504DEMO/NOPB has the following features:

The LMZ10504DEMO/NOPB works on the principle of a Buck converter. In a buck converter, the input voltage is converted into a regulated output voltage by changing the duty cycle (ratio of the on-time to the period) of the energy stored in an inductor. The LMZ10504DEMO/NOPB also supports an “EC Open Loop” mode, which allows it to work at switching frequencies (700 kHz to 7 MHz) that are higher than conventional switching techniques.In EC open loop mode, the hardware is configured such that a resistor connected between the input capacitor (C1) and main power switch (SW1) sets the time period of the switching cycle. This resistor also sets the frequency of the switching cycle. Additionally, a resistor connected to the output inductor (L1) sets the time period of the output voltage ripple.To configure the board, the microcontroller is used to access the registers of the LMZ10504 buck controller. The registers can be configured using the board’s keypad or a computer terminal. The registers can be set to adjust the output voltage, the current limit, and the mode of operation.The LMZ10504DEMO/NOPB evaluation board is ideal for applications that require high efficiency and low noise operation, such as personal electronics, data centers, battery powered equipment, lighting, industrial, and more.
