It features an active-low direct shutdown and thermal shutdown protections as well as over-current protection.The LP2960AIM-3.3 has excellent load and line toggle capability to ensure a stable output voltage. The maximum quiescent current is typically 3.2mA and is adjustable by a single resistor connected to the OUT pin. Working Principle of LP2960AIM-3.3

The LP2960AIM-3.3 is a three-terminal low-dropout, low-noise voltage regulator that utilizes an internal error amplifier comparator to compare the regulated output voltage and an external feedback voltage from the output pin.The regulated output voltage is regulated by the control of a series of internal NPN transistors. The NPN transistors are arranged in such a way to form a linear current source to ground, which produces the constant voltage drop needed to regulate the output voltage.The output voltage is controlled by the externally applied voltage feedback voltage. The feedback voltage is compared to a reference voltage and the difference is used to drive the emitter base junction of the internal NPN transistors which acts as the voltage regulator.The regulator features a thermal shutdown protection, an enable pin, an over-current protection, and a low dropout voltage rating of 0.2V. The quiescent current is typically 3.2mA and can be adjusted by connecting a resistor from the OUT pin to ground.The LP2960AIM-3.3 is typically used in portable applications such as batteries, portable devices, and PDAs. It also can be integrated in small systems such as wireless communication, medical instruments, and digital cameras as a primary voltage regulator.
