The LP2975AIMM-5.0/NOPB is a linear regulator controller from the family of PMIC - Voltage Regulators - Linear Regulator Controllers. It contains an array of features and functions to enable it to keep output voltages ac controlled and regulated. This example is a 5.0 V regulator, offering a full 5.0V range but can be adjusted down to as low 3.8 V using its input accommodator pin.
The device is designed to be used in compact, low-noise and low-cost applications where space is at a premium and moderate levels of output current are needed, such as in cell phone base stations, portable audio systems and smart meters. Its features allow it to operate in stressful environments with economical power consumption.
The LP2975AIMM-5.0/NOPB implements an advanced voltage regulation scheme that utilizes a selectable architecture allowing buck, boost and buck-boost arrangements with fewer external components. It begins with a pulse width modulated voltage regulator followed by a low pass filter. This process results in a simplified buck, boost or buck-boost regulator, ensuring that the output voltage is set to the demanded value.
An internal to the device, programmable oscillator allows for precise selection of desirable switching frequency and in combination with an external loop compensation network and resistive feedback divider it can attain fast loop gain and frequency response, thus ensuring fast transient response. Variable switching frequency at light load can also be utilized to give the device low power consumption, easily allowing the device to meet high efficiency standards over a wide load range.
The LP2975AIMM-5.0/NOPB\'s programmable current limit can also decrease the possibility of overloading downstream components as well as protect the device from getting burned out due to output overcurrent conditions. Other features include an over-temperature and over-voltage protection as well as an enable pin to allow for switching the output voltage on and off.
Comprehensive safety tests are also incorporated into the device to ensure a solid and reliable operation even in harsh environments. An extensive robustness, fault protection and other tests will enable the device to work under extreme temperature, humidity and voltage conditions so that it can provide a safe and reliable operation in all kinds of system applications.
