The working principle of LP3856ES-ADJ/NOPB is base on an error correction system to achieve fast loop response and low output noise. It contains an on-chip band-gap reference that provides an accurate, temperature-compensated voltage reference to supply the error amplifier. The combination of the voltage reference, error amplifier, and feedback control leads to a high-accuracy, fast response output voltage.
The output voltage is set by a single voltage divider that applies a desired feedback voltage via FB and SG pins. The FB pin output voltage is compared with the band-gap reference in the error amplifier. If the feedback reference voltage or load current deviates from the set point, the error amplifier adjusts the gate of the pass transistor to return the output voltage to the reference value. The feedback voltage comparison is a continuous, open-loop operation.
LP3856ES-ADJ/NOPB also offers a programmable soft-start feature, which limits the inrush current upon startup. The soft-start feature prevent big AC line drop at start up, as well as inrush current during the startup of the system. Its adjustable current-limit circuitry includes current-limit level and foldback feature to protect the LP3856ES-ADJ/NOPB and the load against current overload. Thermal shutdown circuitry is also included to protect the part and the system from damage caused by thermal overload.
