The LP3872ES-2.5 is an ideal voltage regulator for low power, noise-sensitive devices. Offering excellent output accuracy (typically up to ±1% over a broad range of input and output voltages), low ripple and noise, and wide input and output voltage range from 2.8V to 6V, it is ideally suited for design of complex, reliable, and efficient power supply solutions. The LP3872ES-2.5 also features over-temperature protection, over-current protection, and short-circuit protection. Its output voltage is adjustable by changing the external resistor which allows varying output voltage between 0.5V to 3.2V. In applications where the output voltage is changed frequently, it supports dynamic program mode, allowing fast and accurate output voltage changes.Applications

The LP3872ES-2.5 is a high performance, low-dropout Linear voltage regulator. It consists of two stages, the linear regulator, and the voltage reference, which allow for low dropout and good performance even at low output currents. The linear regulator is divided into three sections: an error amplifier, the pass element (MOSFET), and the bias circuitry. The error amplifier compares the output voltage to a reference voltage, VREF, and corrects the output voltage accordingly, while the pass element sets the output voltage. The voltage reference is a bandgap reference generator which is used to set the output voltage to the desired level.The error amplifier also monitors the pass element and adjusts the bias, or gate voltage, as necessary to maintain a stable output voltage.
