Switch-mode DC-DC converters are power supplies used in a wide range of electronics and electrical applications. The LT1074HVIT7#PBF is a monolithic, high voltage, current mode, non-synchronous switch-mode DC-DC converter designed to deliver up to 8A or 750W of output power. It belongs to the PMIC (power management IC) voltage regulator family, specifically DC-DC switching regulators.

The operation of the converter is based on the energy stored in the output inductor during certain cycles and released back to the input during others. Thus, a voltage is present at the switch terminals, and the output is regulated by altering the duty cycle. It is a very efficient method of power conversion. Additionally, the frequency-doubling feature ensures a high efficiency by reducing the power lost in switching, interference and heat.

The integrated loop compensation network of the LT1074HVIT7#PBF ensures high stability over a wide range of loads and input voltages. This is done by using a voltage comparator, with external resistors and capacitors, to adjust the current level in the inductor and thus the output voltage.
