Applications

The LT1076CR#TRPBF offers both regulated 5V and regulated 12V outputs with up to 2.5A output current. For example, it can be used as a standalone regulator and ideal to be used in battery operated applications or as a post regulator for high current dc-dc converter. This regulator is also suitable to power up microprocessor-based system with up to 2A current when operating from single supply sources.

The LT1076CR#TRPBF is suitable for powering voltage converters and distributed supplies in an industrial environment and offers superior performance at high switching frequencies. This makes it suitable for applications such as alternative energy, healthcare and process control systems. Working Principle

The LT1076CR#TRPBF utilizes a dual-phase, synchronous buck topology. This topology is ideal for applications that require multiple output regulation while minimising the external component count. The circuit is connected to the input voltage through the main inductor, L1. Primary switch, S1 supplies energy to the input inductor during each on-time period and is then disabled as the primary controller switches it off. This allows the inductance current to be discharged while the secondary controller, S2, is on.

The secondary controller then delivers energy from the secondary side to the load, which is connected in series with the output capacitor, C1. The feedback circuit is then used to monitor the output voltage, which is then compared to a reference voltage, Vref. If the output voltage varies from the reference voltage, the controller works to match the output voltage to the reference voltage. This is done by modulating the frequency and duty cycle of the switching cycles.

The LT1076CR#TRPBF therefore provides a reliable and highly efficient power regulation solution. It offers adjustable output voltage, low noise, low input capacitance and high frequency operation, making it an ideal choice for distributed and industrial applications. Furthermore, the device is available in a 5-pin TO-220 (through-hole) package and offers a wide range of operating temperature ranges and an adjustable output voltage range of 0.8V – 28 V. The LT1076CR#TRPBF is therefore a versatile, cost effective and efficient voltage regulator solution.
