The LT1009CLPR is a member of the world’s smallest, space-saving and most reliable voltage reference family in the linear technology product series. The device offers very low dropout voltage and can operate at input voltages as low as 4.5V while maintaining excellent 1.25V output voltage accuracy. The chip offers 25mA of output current with an output voltage stability of typically 1.25V over -40 to +125C temperature range. The device is available in an 8-pin narrow body MSOP package for applications requiring a minimum PCB space.

The LT1009CLPR voltage references are widely used in automotive system monitor and control, high-resolution analog-to-digital conversion and digital-to-analog conversion, motor control, data acquisition and process control. The device is also suitable for handheld, battery powered and portable applications. It has a maximum operating temperature range of up to 125C and a low power shutdown mode with a typical standby current of 0.8uA.

The LT1009CLPR operates within a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 40V. It offers a fast start-up time of typically 600us with maximum output voltage accuracy of up to 1.25V ±1%. The device is feature rich with internal EMI protection, open-drain CMOS outputs, low output noise and a wide range of low dropout voltage. It also has a temperature coefficient of 25ppm/C and an improved PSRR of typically 57dB.

The working principle of the LT1009CLPR is quite simple and easy to understand. It uses an internal voltage reference to create a stable voltage reference on its output. The internal voltage reference is compared to the set point voltage by an error amplifier, and the error amplifier then adjusts the output voltage by regulating the output current. The external components, such as resistors and capacitors, along with the feedback resistor, complete the design of the voltage reference circuit.

When operating, the LT1009CLPR starts up in a few milliseconds. The feedback network then begins regulating the output voltage to the set point voltage. The output voltage is stable over a wide range of temperatures and input voltages. The LT1009CLPR is also designed with a maximum EMI protection, a low noise level and a peak supply current of 20mA.
