The LT1170HVCQ#PBF is an advanced step-down switching regulator controller designed to provide up to several amps of output current from input voltages as high as 42V. The device is available in a space-saving 8-pin DIP and SO packages. The LT1170HVCQ#PBF high-efficiency step-down switching regulator achieves efficiencies up to 93% and can supply up to 2A of load current. The LT1170HVCQ#PBF controller is designed for use in automotive, motor control, and industrial applications that require a stable, low-output power supply.

LT1170HVCQ#PBF Application Field and Working Principle

The LT1170HVCQ#PBF switching regulator controller is ideally suited for a wide range of applications such as DC-DC converters, motor controllers, isolated power supplies, telecom and datacom power supplies,industrial instruments and medical equipment. The LT1170HVCQ#PBF can deliver up to 2A of output current at low output voltages. High efficiency, as well as small size, makes the LT1170HVCQ#PBF particularly well-suited for applications such as server power supplies and battery chargers.

The LT1170HVCQ#PBF switching regulator is based on a fixed-frequency, voltage-mode architecture. It integrates fixed-frequency oscillator, error amplifier, power MOSFET gate driver and protected gate circuit into one 8-pin PDIP or SOIC package. The LT1170HVCQ#PBF can operate in both continuous and discontinuous conduction mode (CCM/DCM) depending on the input voltage and load conditions.

The LT1170HVCQ#PBF provides an adjustable frequency of 400 kHz to 1.4 MHz, allowing the designer to tailor switching frequency to minimize the component size, reduce the output ripple, minimize external component cost and count, and optimize system efficiency. The adjustable frequency and operating range also allow the device to be used in high-current battery charger applications.

In addition, the LT1170HVCQ#PBF provides two internally-controlled gate drives to maximize the efficiency of the converter and reduce size and cost. The gate driver can be set to operate at either a fixed or a dynamically adjustable output voltage depending on the conditions of the system. This allows the converter to operate at the highest possible efficiency over the entire load range without requiring the addition of external components.

The LT1170HVCQ#PBF incorporates various protections against fault conditions such as over temperature, under voltage lockout and current limit, eliminating the need for additional components to provide these protections. In addition, the LT1170HVCQ#PBF provides an external signal input that can be used to reduce switching frequency in low line conditions.

The LT1170HVCQ#PBF switching regulator is a high-efficiency, low-cost, and space-saving solution for a variety of automobile, motor control, and industrial power supply applications. The device is available in an 8-pin DIP and SO package, providing a flexible and compact solution in a variety of applications.
