The LT1963AEQ#TRPBF is an adjustable low dropout, two-terminal linear regulator with three-terminal adjustable version that has a 200 mA dynamic load current and 3 A peak current capability. This regulator features a wide input voltage range of 2.5V to 20V and output voltages adjustable down to 0.5V. It is ideal for portable battery-powered applications where the battery voltage variation can be wide, and requires very low quiescent current to achieve extended battery life. The LT1963AEQ#TRPBF also has an on-chip shut-down mode with very low quiescent current and high-pulse current capability for driving power MOSFETs.

The three-terminal adjustable version has the same features as the two-terminal fixed version with the addition of a resistance divider to set the regulated output voltage. The reference voltage is 0.8V ±1%. Temperature coefficient of output voltage is low and is typicallt 0.002%/°C.

The LT1963AEQ#TRPBF employs an N-channel MOSFET pass transistor which requires only 105μA quiescent current while charging the output capacitor. When the load is constant and the battery voltage drops, quiescent current increases to only 140μA. The LT1963AEQ#TRPBF offers a fast transient response with ±1.0% load regulation. Quick load transients of up to 40mV step change at 1A load current with no external compensation also improves system dynamics. A unique undervoltage sensing circuit monitors the voltage of optional supercaps or very low impedance batteries.

The LT1963AEQ#TRPBF also has a 200 mA low dropout voltage, which is adjustable from 0.02V to 0.341V, by programming with an external resistor, making it ideal for battery- and supercap-powered applications that require minimal headroom. This regulator has an internal thermal shutdown, current limiting, and reversed-battery protection as added protection against system-level faults.
