Introduction to LT3045EDD#PBF

The LT3045EDD#PBF is a high performance, low quiescent current, low dropout linear regulator in 3mm x 3mm DFN package. It features a low dropout voltage of 375mV with a load current range of 0.1A to 1A. Its wide input voltage range of 3V to 45V allows it to be used in applications with wide input voltage variations. It has built-in reverse battery protection and thermal overload protection. Additionally, the LT3045EDD#PBF is also RoHS compliant.

The LT3045EDD#PBF is suitable for all sorts of industrial applications, where minimum output regulation error, low quiescent current, and low noise operation is required. Working Principle of LT3045EDD#PBF

The LT3045EDD#PBF operates on a linear regulator principle and operates with a voltage dropout of only 375mV. The output voltage is set by the voltage divider network which gives an accurate output voltage. The LT3045EDD#PBF also has a reference voltage of 1.2V, which sets the voltage output of the regulator. With these features, the LT3045EDD#PBF provides high accuracy, low quiescent current (typically 35uA), low thermal capacitance and low noise operation.

The LT3045EDD#PBF regulator uses a PFET pass element connected in series between the input and output. Current flows from the input to the output when the PFET is turned on, and when the PFET is turned off, the output voltage will drop to its lower limit ("dropout”). Since the regulator has a low dropout voltage and a low quiescent current, the LT3045EDD#PBF regulator is able to maintain high efficiency, even when the input voltage is close to the output voltage.

The LT3045EDD#PBF regulator also uses two feedback networks. The first network is used to sense the output voltage and provide a reference voltage of 1.2V. The reference signal is then compared to the output voltage to control the on-off cycles of the PFET switch. The second network is used to monitor the output current, preventing the LT3045EDD#PBF regulator from exceeding the maximum current limit set for it.

The LT3045EDD#PBF regulator also utilizes a thermal overload protection scheme to protect itself from damage due to over temperature. In the event of an over temperature condition, the thermal overload circuitry detects the temperature rise, and the regulator will shut-down in order to prevent damage to the internal components.
