LT3796IFE-1#PBF is an LED driver IC featured with dual-phase peak current mode control programmable with average current mode control PWM dimming. It is designed to work with input voltage range of 6V to 42V, while output current goes up to 3A with a great deal of efficiency. It also supports up to 8-string LED configuration, reducing the burden of current flow through each string of LEDs, as well as proving great power saving.
The dual-phase control of LT3796IFE-1#PBF features exceptionally low output ripple current, eliminating the need of additional filter components. In addition to the cost-saving measures, the peak current mode control provides excellent line/load regulation and excellent loop dynamic performance.

Working Principle of LT3796IFE-1#PBF
The LT3796IFE-1#PBF supports constant-current operation for various kinds of LED applications. It uses an advanced peak current mode control technique to guarantee precise output current accuracy and exhibits excellent line/load regulation.
To ensure the precise output current accuracy, LT3796IFE-1#PBF features an internal Voltage and Current Difference Amplifier (VCDA) to sense the output ripple current of the converter and then compares it to the dc current set point. The conversion cycle is terminated early when the sensed ripple current exceeds the specified current level.
To maintain the desired current rate, LT3796IFE-1#PBF also uses a unique double-level averaged current overload protection. It senses the emitted light power by monitoring the voltage drop across the output current sensing resistor. When the output voltage drops below a specified threshold, the device will shut off the converter. This feature provides improved open/short circuit protection.
The LT3796IFE-1#PBF also includes output terminals for connecting an external temperature sensing thermistor. This thermistor helps protect the LEDs from high temperature damage by monitoring the ambient temperature and controlling the output current accordingly.
In order to realize the rated power output, LT3796IFE-1#PBF employs a soft-start technique to ensure the gradual ramp-up of the output current. The soft-start is customised so that the output current rises gradually to the set point, achieves rated power and keeps the load current ripple low.
Apart from the above advanced features, the LT3796IFE-1#PBF also supports a wide range of protection features: over voltage protection (OVP), under voltage protection (UVP), over current protection (OCP), thermal shutdown (TSD). According to dedicated requirements, user can select the optimal protective settings.
