RF Demodulators are used to convert information from an analog wave form (typically a radio signal) into a digital form. The LT5517EUF#TRPBF is a highly efficient RF demodulator which can be used to recover packet data from burst transmissions over RF links. The LT5517EUF#TRPBF RF Demodulator is part of the family of low noise, wide dynamic range and low power RF demodulators from Linear Technology. It is specifically designed to allow easy recovery of packet data in 2.4GHz applications (including WLAN, Bluetooth and GPS reception). It combines a low-noise mixer with a variable gain low noise amplifier and a programmable baseband filter.
The LT5517EUF#TRPBF can be combined with a Local Oscillator (LO) and downconverter for direct radio reception. It is suitable for reception of frequency-hop spread spectrum (FHSS) signals over wide bandwidths, such as those used in WLAN or Bluetooth applications. The resulting signal is a baseband signal with relatively low power levels due to the distance the signal must travel. The LT5517EUF#TRPBF helps amplify this weak signal and extract the information from it in an efficient manner, thus enabling reliable long-range applications.
Design Features
The LT5517EUF#TRPBF is designed to provide maximum performance, efficient operation and low power consumption. The device implements a combination of a low-noise IF Amplifier, highly efficient and low power automatic gain control (AGC) and variable gain amplifier (VGA), and integrated baseband filter. The IF amplifier provides wide dynamic range and low noise operations at all gain settings. This allows the device to maintain a low noise figure even when the received signal is at low power level. The device is capable of providing a neat 0dB noise figure without any external components.
The integrated VGA provides variable receiver gain up to 20dB. This ensures that the device can detect signals which are located at a distance from the receiver. The device includes an AGC circuit to help maintain uniform receiver gain across wide temperature and power supply fluctuations.
The device also includes an integrated baseband filter which provides a lower cutoff frequency of up to 100kHz. This helps the device to reject any out of band interference as well as any harmonics from the received signal. The filter also allows the implementation of low power receivers as it reduces the ADC sampling rate.
Applications
