The LTC1386IS#PBF is a 8-channel data brief/receive bus drivers/receivers mainframe. It applies a built-in CMOS technology within a tiny measurement package of SO-8L that makes use of a few external components to offer an economical solution to a versatile, high performance, low power dissipation, CMOS serial EIA-422/EIA-485 applications. Among its features is differential drivers/receivers that display low quiescent current, plus high output current capability and excellent electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection.

The EIA-422/EIA-485 transceiver communicates data in a bidirectional manner between two separate apparatus. The EIA-485 transceiver provides protection from bus-to-bus and bus-to-ground transients. It operates over a wide temperature range from -40°C to 85°C.

The LTC1386IS#PBF bus driver mainframe is installed with a high performance, low power dissipation CMOS technology. It is composed primarily of a receiver and a differential driver-receiver set, integrating a twice 2-channel EIA-485 differential driver and twice 2-channel EIA-422/EIA-485 differential receiver.

The receiver increases the current-mode signals and switches them to true/complement formats that are consistent with logic. The differential bus drivers function by taking current-mode signals and switch them to true/complement signals that are consistent with logic. The EIA-485 transceiver provides over-voltage protection from bus-to-bus and bus-to-ground transients, plus back-drive protection to the receiving line.

The EIA-422/EIA-485 applications primarily depend on the interconnection of two nodes. The nodes are linked together via a differential pair of lines. An individual node can either receive or drive data (host mode). Whenever it is needed to drive data, the node connects its interface to a pair of bus lines, the output-enable (OE) logic level is activated, and data is transferred to the bus lines.

When the node is not in host mode, the node’s EIA-485 interface is linked to the pair of bus lines, yet the OE with a descending logic level is appointed, making the node inactive on the bus lines. In the field of industry, the most common application for EIA-422/EIA-485 involves the direction of an industrial control system, plus networking within systems and devices related to industrial automation.

With unidirectional operation, the user can operate networks with many nodes with one transmitting node and several receiving nodes.

The LTC1386IS#PBF also provides a few terminals for understanding the current driver/receiver status. Accordingly, the user can handle the twisted-pair transmission from one node to another. When evaluating transmission current and determining node functionality, the users can make sure of connecting the RXSTAT open-drain output with the TBIAS terminal of the LTC1386IS#PBF core.

Modes of operation of the LTC1386IS#PBF are initialized with two control inputs, such as OE and OEL. When the OEL is at logic high level, the device will make all the associated drivers and drivers while the OE is at logic low. Each driver has its own control sign, so it is possible to use individual drivers under different conditions at the same time.

The driver of the LTC1386IS#PBF provides maximum current source or sink capability of 8 mA, meaning each EIA-422/EIA-485 driver can effectively transfer unbalanced signals to an on-ground voltage for over-voltage protection given the driver is enabled.
