The device accepts an 8-bit digital word (D0–D7) input, which is then converted into a programmed current, through the DAC module. The output of the DAC is passed through a low gain amplifier, providing a low-impedance output drive.The maximum output current is determined by the external resistor value and is programmed by entering the appropriate binary code on the data inputs (D0–D7). The output current is adjusted by either increasing or decreasing the number of input data bits; a higher resolution can be achieved by increasing the number of bits. The actual output current is proportional to the sum of the bits that are set, so a higher number of bits enables a finer control over the output current. The output current returns to zero for a digital input of 11111111, which is the maximum resolution. The low-impedance output driver in the LTC1453IN8#PBF is capable of driving a range of loads, from 2Ω to 20kΩ. It is designed for DC signals that require low power dissipation.
