Data Acquisition - Digital to Analog Converters (DAC) are device which convert digital signal into an analog representation. One of the most widely used type of DAC is the Linear Technology Corporation (LTC) 1458ISW#PBF, a ZERO-LATENCY Voltage Output Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) with low power consumption and very high accuracy. This particular device is designed for customers who require fast DAC outputs with low clock jitter without sacrificing system power, accuracy or performance.

The device provides a full -3dB bandwidth of up to 200MHz, with a settling time of <50s for settling to 0.1% and less than 30s for settling to 0.01%. As such it is perfectly suited for both high fidelity audio applications and for precision, low noise applications such as imaging and instrumentation. The low power consumption of just 3mW makes it suitable for portable and battery powered applications.

The LTC1458ISW#PBF has sixteen control inputs, allowing binary encoded input words of up to 16 bits. Its true differential output allows the DAC to be connected to low noise active loads and amplifiers, providing low output noise and wide dynamic range. External capacitors are used to allow theVin voltage to be adjusted by up to ±15%.

The internal architecture of the device is based on a separate sub-cell differential DAC output structure, with differential output stages which ensure high linearity and low power consumption. The device includes an auto-zero feature which can be used to reduce the impact of dc offsets on the output as well as an optional filtering element which can be used to reduce out-of-band noise.

The LTC1458ISW#PBF also includes three sets of test points which can be used for external calibration and verification of the DAC performance. The device also supports adjustable bit settling times, allowing the user to dial-in the desired settling time for the given application. An integrated programmable reference provides the necessary reference voltage for the device.
