The LTC1669-1CS5#TRMPBF is part of a family of highly accurate, dual, 8-bit, buffered, voltage output Digital to Analog Converters (DACs) that are designed to operate from a single, low voltage (+2.7V to +5V) power supply. It is a low power, CMOS-based, 10-pin device and features a white noise generator, non-volatile, digital code write protection and an external buffering amplifier.
The wide ranging applications of this device primarily falls in the fields of data acquisition, digital signal processing, medical and industrial instrumentation, medical imaging and diagnostic systems. Accurate control and generation of analogue signals are important for a variety of critical, real-time applications and LTC1669-1CS5#TRMPBF is well suited for these applications because of its low power consumption, low distortion and reliable operational profile.
The general working principle of this device is straightforward and built on the design of a two-step DAC. In the first step, the 8-bit current source DACs regulates and drives DAC outputs A and B. The regulation is done by the on-chip reference voltage and is connected to a DAC-specific output to regulate the full-scale current range. In the second step, a two-stage buffering amplifier translates the signals at the DAC outputs to the supply voltage.
The DAC settling time depends on system configurations. With switching between two consecutive codes in the range of 0.001 – 0.003 volts, the settling time is typically just 500ns. The LTC1669-1CS5#TRMPBF has excellent noise rejection specifications, with high rejection of the fundamental (1kHz and below) and the harmonic up to 5 MHz. It offers high degree of accuracy and reliable performance in industrial and consumer applications by having low offset errors and non-linearity, low noise and temperature stability features.
The device also features non-volatile protection of the DAC registers in order to maintain accuracy over long periods of time. It is optimized for low power comprehensive mixed signal production.
