LTC2311HMSE-12#PBF Application Field and Working Principle Data Acquisition – Analog to Digital Converters (ADC) The LTC2311HMSE-12#PBF is a highly accurate 12-bit data acquisition system-on-chip (SoC) enabling high-resolution, low-noise signal acquisition in low-voltage, battery-powered systems. It is samples 17 channels per device and its operation is optimised for low-voltage, low-power sampling systems. The device\'s integrated SAR converter can detect signals down to 25 mV through the integrated analog front-end (AFE).The device integrates a 12-bit SAR ADC with a range of programmable inputs & outputs on a single chip. The LTC2311HMSE-12#PBF is designed to operate in low-voltage systems, such as battery-powered portable devices, by minimizing power consumption. The device reduces overall system power by maintaining the conversion clock operating at or below 100 kHz, which can result in a reduction of power consumption by a factor of 10 or more compared to devices operating at greater frequencies.The LTC2311HMSE-12#PBF includes an on-board analog front-end (AFE) to acquire and condition signal levels from 0 V to 5 V. This conditioner contains 2 inputs, a signal detect switch, an anti-aliasing filter, a sample-and-hold circuit, a reference buffer and a gain stage. The AFE is powered by a power supply enable/disable pin, which toggles the enable signal whenever conditions are optimum for sampling. This reduces the overall power consumption when the signal is not required by the device.The device uses a successive approximation register (SAR) to convert incoming analog signals into digital data. The SAR architecture uses a switching matrix to capture and sample a signal, with a feedback loop used to match the sample output with the input. This is achieved by the use of a set of switches that sample the input and configure the appropriate resistance values required to meter the correct reference voltage to the comparator.The device features a single-shot conversion mode which, when enabled, allows instantaneous conversion of all selected channels. In single-shot mode, the device can sample and convert as many as 16 channels in sequence, significantly reducing power consumption and providing a faster sampling rate. The device also includes an oversampling capability which can be enabled to increase resolution and reduce noise.The device contains a programmable gain amplifier (PGA) which can be configured to increase or decrease the signal range by up to 10X. The PGA also supports a power saving mode which shuts off the amplifier when it is not needed, reducing the power consumption of the device.The output of the device is provided as a digital signal, which can be accessed either directly from the device or via a SPI interface.
