Working Principle of LTC3103EMSE#TRPBF

LTC3103EMSE#TRPBF uses an advanced buck-boost architecture operating in either buck or boost mode to achieve high efficiency over the entire input-to-output range. The switching regulator utilizes a high-frequency power-train composed of a pair of N- and P-channel power MOSFETs, operated in complementary fashion to achieve high efficiency even for very low power levels. The power train control is based on a current mode control scheme, with a fixed frequency modulation and regulation feedback loop.

An external 0.1µF capacitor is used to block the input voltage and to provide a slow start up, while the output is regulated by a sense FET connected to the grounded output terminal. This connection provides a current-sense feedback and introduces temperature compensation. During operation, the output voltage is sensed and compared to an internal reference voltage. The resulting error voltage is amplified and then used to modulate the switching frequency by controlling the PWM signal.
