The LTC3212EDDB is a low-cost, externally-compensated COT flyback controller suitable for driving LEDs. This device starts up within 150 microseconds after the input voltage is applied, and can dim LEDs quickly, accurately, and smoothly. It is designed to allow easy, low-cost dimming of a single LED string, small clusters, or other power LEDs that require current control.
The LTC3212EDDB is designed to provide high accuracy current control for LED drivers. It uses an external compensation network to achieve accurate LED current dimming from 0% to 100% without transitions when dimming. An internal voltage regulator allows the design of a single-ended flyback LED driver that does not require an opto-coupler for regulation. This current charge is maintained until M1 is turned on, at which point the output voltage rises and limits the current to the set level.
The output current is limited by the current sense resistor RCS. The internal comparator monitors the voltage drop across RCS and compares it to a reference voltage generated by the internal voltage regulator. When the voltage across RCS increases above the programmed reference voltage, the controller will turn off M1, stopping the output current flow. When M1 is off, the output voltage will start to decrease by the voltage across the inductance.
The LTC3212EDDB also features precision current regulation and low current consumption. The device features a current regulation accuracy of +/- 0.2%. It also utilizes a low current consumption during operation, with current consumption as low as 1.2 mA when operating.
