LTC3388IMSE-1#PBF is a product developed by Linear Technology Corporation which mainly specializes in DC to DC step-down converters. This Polymer Enhanced Buck Converter (PEBC) is a single power supply step-down DC/DC chipset, combining a control IC, oscillator and a MOSFET driver. It features low quiescent current (IQ) power dissipation and its wide input voltage of up to 30V, enables to provide high efficiency power conversion with up to 95.2%, making it ideal power supply solutions for a variety of applications.The LTC3388IMSE-1#PBF features a robust output current of 8A, precise voltage control ±3% (at both light and heavy load) and can be used with different peak-current-mode control topologies. It has very low EMI and ripple, making it suitable for applications such as distributed power-systems, set-top-boxes, telecom systems, portable applications, industrial systems and instrumentation.The LTC3388IMSE-1#PBF provides two operating modes for controlling the output voltage – constant frequency current-mode control and constant on-time control both having a relatively low RDS(ON) (on-state resistance) of the synchronous rectifier. With the constant frequency current mode control, the output current is sensed and used to decide the PWM duty cycle, while with constant on-time control, the current is integrated over the period of time to produce a constant on-time control of the output voltage. To further reduce the quiescent current, the pull-down resistor is featured.The PEBC chipset is based on the buck converter and uses two external MOSFETs for power conversion. While the PWM chip provides the PWM signal to control the power transistor, the LTC3388 chipset controls the buck regulator via the MOSFET driver. The buck converter works by using an inductor to store energy during the period of time when the switch is On. When the switch is off, the stored energy is released to the output.The LTC3388IMSE-1# used in conjunction with an external MOSFET allows the use of current-mode control, input voltage feed-forward, low-quiescent current, soft-start and inrush current limit to help with reducing EMI and over-current protection. Furthermore, the ripple and noise behavior of the buck regulator is improved with an adaptive-reset adaptive-slope (ARAS) control technique. The LTC3388IMSE-1# makes it easy to implement high-efficiency, low-cost and small-size power converters with improved performance and innovative features.In summary, the LTC3388IMSE-1#PBF DC-DC switching regulator offers a wide range of features found on most modernPower Management ICs, enabling the design of high-efficiency and high-performance power supply systems.
