Working Principle

The LTC3527EUD-1#TRPBF is a current mode DC/DC converter that employs a fixed frequency, voltage mode PWM control. The converter includes an internal voltage reference, an on-chip error amplifier, oscillator, high-side MOSFET and an active low-side MOSFET. The current mode PWM control mechanism of the converter maintains a constant on-time period while the current sensing comparator monitors the output current to control the duty cycle of the pulse width modulated output signal. The high-side MOSFET is enabled as a result of which the output capacitor is charged. As capacitor current increases, an internal low power current sense comparator compares the capacitor current with the voltage reference and triggers the pulse width modulation signal for the switching MOSFETs. The duty cycle of the output signal is improved as current is regulated. The converter features programmable external loop compensation components, adjustable switching frequency and adjustable soft start to design the external compensation so that the overall system response is optimized for the given application. It also features input voltage, output voltage and thermal shutdown as protection features. Moreover, the converter allows for 100% duty cycle operation.
