LTC3618IFE#PBF is a high voltage, PolyPhase step-down, synchronous, DC/DC converter in a 16-lead TQFN package. It is a part of a wide range of DC/DC converters offered by Linear Technology. This product belongs to the group of Special Purpose Voltage Regulators, which are specifically designed to maintain a constant output voltage in varying load conditions and input voltage.The LTC3618IFE#PBF is an advanced, high voltage, PolyPhase synchronous buck converter with excellent efficiency performance. It regulates an input voltage of 2.5 V to 26 V to two regulated output voltages of 0.8 V to 19.2 V with current of up to 8A. This product also has integrated current-mode, foldback and forced PWM operation modes for improved efficiency, capability of running at very high frequencies (up to 2 MHz) with fast transient response, forced PWM to prevent sub harmonic oscillations, fast and responsive current-mode foldback for product safety, and more.This product has a wide range of applications, primarily in motor control, such as actuators in automotive, robotics, industrial controllers and motion control. Other applications include highly accurate, regulated dc-dc conversion with very high current capabilities.The working principle of the LTC3618IFE#PBF is based on a 60° phase-shifted full-bridge topology, which enables the best efficiency in high current applications. It also has an integrated low impedance sense FET. In a typical application, two high side/low side N-channel MOSFETs are driven by the corresponding high side/low side gate drivers to form the PolyPhase full bridge. The two low-side MOSFETs are driven in phase opposition (60° out-of-phase) with respect to the two high side MOSFETs, the gate voltage of the low side FET is always lower than the gate voltage of the high side FET. This phase shift between the two gates creates a phase lag between the high and low side current, which eliminates the input current ripple.The LTC3618IFE#PBF has an internal 5V regulator that provides the necessary bias voltage for the control circuitry and gate drivers. The integrated bootstrap diode prevents the voltage at the BOOT pin from exceeding the internal 5V regulator. The LTC3618IFE#PBF also has a low-impedance sense FET, which ensures the maximum current limit of the output (8A) despite the high input voltage variations.The LTC3618IFE#PBF supports a wide range of operation modes like forced PWM, adaptive non-overlapping-mode and pulse skipping to maximize the efficiency. The forced PWM mode maintains the two high side FETs in direct current conduction mode and prevents subharmonic oscillations. In the adaptive non-overlapping-mode and Pulse skipping mode, the MOSFETs are switched at the end of each cycle and the switching frequency is dynamically adjusted according to the load conditions to achieve maximum efficiency.In conclusion, the LTC3618IFE#PBF is a versatile high voltage, PolyPhase step-down, synchronous, DC/DC converter from Linear Technology.
