The LTC3816EFE#TRPBF is a dual, 180mΩ, low-side power switch that incorporates a synchronous rectifier with current-mode control. This power switch is optimized for synchronous buck configurations. The integrated current-sense amplifier senses the synchronous rectifier current and drives the gate of the power switch as needed to minimize switching losses. It also features low RDS(on) and low turn-on times. Most importantly, it features fast transient response when current is ramped up or down.
The LTC3816EFE#TRPBF application field and working principle makes it an ideal device for high-performance point-of-load (POL) regulators, where high efficiency, low quiescent current and fast transient response are important criteria. This device also is especially useful in high-load current applications, such as powering an FPGA core, where the occasionally high peak currents may be beyond the capabilities of a smaller package.
