The LTM8033IY is a type of DC DC Converter. It is available in 2 packages, a thermally enhanced low profile (2 x 3mm) LLP package and power QFN package. It is ideal for portable device applications, such as smartphones, tablets and notebooks, due to its high power density. Its normal operating temperature range is -40°C to +105°C.
The LTM8033IY is a low-side switch-mode synchronous buck regulator. It has an input voltage of 2V to 12V and an adjustable output voltage from 0.8V to 8V. It provides 3A (4A peak) of continuous output current and up to 7A of short-term output current with current-mode control to provide fast dynamic response. The LTM8033IY can offer a high power-conversion efficiency and low output noise, and can also operate in discontinuous or continuous mode of operation.
The LTM8033IY contains various features for protection-including overvoltage protection (OVP), cycle-by-cycle current limit, short-circuit protection, undervoltage lockout (UVLO) and overtemperature shutdown. Additional features include soft-start, active cycle-by-cycle current limit, and thermal management by monitoring die temperature. The LTM8033IY uses N-channel MOSFET switches to provide high efficiency and fast transient response. The LTM8033IY does not require any additional external components. It can be configured in non-inverting or inverting output polarity.
The LTM8033IY is designed for a wide variety of field applications, such as general voltage regulation and battery-power management for portable devices; powering audio amplifiers, white LED backlighting for liquid crystal display (LCD) and keyboard applications; powering high-speed data converters; for powering microprocessors and microcontrollers; for automotive applications; and for powering FPGAs and DSPs. Additionally, it can be used for powering an external voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO).
The working principle of the LTM8033IY is a two-step operation— inomg and buck mode. The LTM8033IY is enabled with an EN/UV pin, allowing it to operate in either mode. When the EN/UV pin is low, the LTM8033IY is in inomg mode, in which it works as an LDO regulator. When the EN/UV pin is high, the LTM8033IY is in buck mode, so it regulates the input voltage to the desired output voltage by using a procedure known as pulse-width modulation (PWM). The PWM signal is generated by the on-chip control circuitry. The control circuitry senses the output voltage and adjusts the duty cycle of the PWM signal, thus results in output regulation.
