The LV5980MCGEVB (Evaluation Board - DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS) is a versatile, cost-effective tool designed to help design engineers test and evaluate a variety of input/output Voltages, currents, and output power levels in DC/DC and AC/DC Switch-Mode Power Supplies (SMPS) applications. The LV5980MCGEVB comes with a preloaded controller board that provides comprehensive control functionality, allowing designers to quickly evaluate their designs. The board is also supplied with a range of common SMPS components, providing an easy and flexible path to product prototyping.
The LV5980MCGEVB evaluation board utilizes the LV5980M regulator, which is a high performance, low cost switching power supply controller designed to control any topology of DC/DC or AC/DC switch-mode power supplies (SMPS). It provides comprehensive programming capability, allowing designers to adjust parameters such as voltage, current, and frequency of operation to customize the design for their particular application needs. The controller includes fault protection functions, as well as other functions typically expected in industrial SMPSs, such as soft start-up, active- and standby-mode operation, and over-temperature protection.
The power stage on the LV5980MCGEVB board consists of two power switches – N-channel high-side MOSFETS and P-channel low-side MOSFETS – and a resonant inverter transformer. The transformer is arranged in a LLC resonant half-bridge topology, allowing for high-efficiency operation over a wide input and output voltage range. In addition, the board also includes a Schottky clamping diode, an output filter inductor, output rectifier diode, and current sense resistor for monitoring the current through the MOSFETs.
LV5980MCGEVB can be used for many kinds of innovative applications covering a wide range of output voltages, varying from simple battery chargers to high voltage motors. The board can also be used to robustly control variable and fixed frequency DC/DC converters, resonant converters, low and high power motor drive applications.The evaluation board has two user customizable programming headers on the top side, for which the configuration can be conveniently programmed from the Prototyping Tool. The programming tool can also be used to set parameters such as output voltage, duty cycle, current limit, temperature monitoring, etc. Also two the Arduino headers are available to directly integrate the Arduino microcontroller development board with the evaluation board for controlling applications. In addition, the board also has an external C compensation header and an external V adjustment header to adjust the circuit for specified output requirements.The LV5980MCGEVB evaluation board can be used to quickly and easily evaluate designs for a variety of DC/DC and AC/DC power supply applications. The board provides an easy-to-use platform with comprehensive control and protection functions, allowing designers to quickly and easily evaluate their designs. Additionally, the board provides space for custom components to customize the circuit for particular applications, providing an extremely cost-effective tool for rapid prototyping and testing of power supply designs.
