The LV8907UWR2G motor driver is a motor control driver integrated circuit (both brushless DC motor driver and brushless AC motor controller) designed for consumer and commercial applications such as air conditioners and low power motors. It is designed to deliver high performance and low power consumption, as well as excellent protection from over-voltages, under-voltages, and overtemperature. The device can utilize a broad range of power sources, from mains AC line power, to solar panels and micro-hydro turbines.
The LV8907UWR2G includes a power FET (field-effect transistor) driver block (3-phase full-bridge) and a control circuitry block. The control circuitry block includes a 24-bit ARM Cortex-M3 processor core operating at up to 80MHz, a temperature sensor, a voltage monitor, and a power-on reset (POR) generator. Its powerful processor core provides the best in performance, with features such as real-time variable speed control, voltage and temperature protection, and many real-time operating modes.
When driving the motor, the processor core samples the motor speed using the rotator revolutions per second (RPM) sensor, applies a voltage control loop, and applies an appropriate current control loop accordingly. The voltages are applied dynamically to reduce losses, generate higher torque and increase efficiency.
The LV8907UWR2G provides thermal protection, over-voltage protection, and under-voltage protection to protect the motor from damage. Thermal protection monitors the impedance value of the motor to detect overheating, and then immediately shuts down the motor to prevent further damage. Over-voltage protection prevents the device from having an output voltage that is greater than the set threshold, while under-voltage protection prevents the device from having an output voltage that is less than a set threshold.
The LV8907UWR2G supports a wide range of consumer and industrial applications, such as air conditioners, pumps, refrigerators, fans, and small water and light turbines.
