LX6523ID is a lighting and ballast controller integrated circuit (IC) manufactured by Intersil. It includes two channels that each contain a low-ohmic protected feedback current sink which enables high power LED applications requiring linear current control for providing precise lighting intensities and varied ambient lighting effects. As a part, LX6523ID regulates the output current levels for all LED-based lighting application designs.
In operation, LEDs must be driven by a constant current source in order to achieve consistent brightness and uniform color. This is where LX6523ID comes in. By regulating the current, LX6523ID ensures that LEDs maintain their brightness and color consistency over time and temperature change, as well as over multiple LED drive currents.
The current sink feedback of the LX6523ID works by controlling the output current to match the reference voltage that is set using a reference resistor. The reference voltage determines the balance between the voltage drop across the external sense resistor and the Iout voltage across the external current sink resistors. As a result, the current delivered to the LEDs is regulated without any inherent distortion.
The LX6523ID also includes an excellent EMI detection and filtering feature which helps to reduce conducted and radiated noise. Additionally, it features an optimized startup procedure that provides transient-free start up without an external clamp diode or an external BOM component.
LX6523ID integrated with the Intersil’s proprietary voice coil motor control library allows lighting and ballast controller designs to be implemented with ease for real-time motion control applications. This allows designers to quickly and easily design motion control systems for both component and adapter applications.
For convenience, the LX6523ID is specifically designed to support dimmable LED designs and is fully compatible with industry standard dimming systems, such as analog and digital dimming systems, Incandescent dimming systems as well as PWM dimming systems. It also provides an analog pass through facility and an integrated over-temperature protection function.
