The M08890G-13 is a PMIC - LED Driver device, specifically a constant current buck driver. It is well-suited to driving multiple LEDs from a sinewave dimmer making it useful in common lighting control applications such as distributed dimming control, street lighting, and task lighting. This device supports the buck architecture, allowing the device output voltage to be lower than the input voltage, and supports the operation of a single LED or multiple LEDs connected in series. It has many user adjustable parameters such as pulse width modulation, internally programmable delay, dimming range, minimum current, etc.
M08890G-13 offers a wide range of features that make it an ideal device for LED lighting applications. The device offers an adjustable output current, wide operating temperature range, adjustable output voltage, accurate voltage and current sensing, programmable current limit, a soft-start function, adjustable loop gain, and a fault protection mechanism that monitors any fault conditions in the output.
Working Principle:
The M08890G-13 has two switch pins (SW1/SW2) which control the current through the LED. When both pins are connected to VDD or GND, the LED is either in an on state or in a off state. When either of the two pins change its state, the LED current regulation begins and the LED current will increase or decrease depending on the voltage of the respective switch pins.
The LED current is controlled by a high current power switch (SW1/SW2) operating in a pulse width modulation (PWM) mode. When both pins are connected to VIN, the power switch is turned on and the output current is set to the reference voltages connected to the RIA and RIBS pins by the LM761D reference amplifier. The output current is then amplified and regulated by the PWM feedback loop. When either switch pin is disconnected from VIN, the power switch is turned off and the output current is stopped.
The device also has two inputs, RT and VC. When an RT signal is received, the soft-start function begins. If the voltage at the VC input is lower than 0.9V, the PWM frequency is adjusted automatically to reduce the switching rate and limiter the proportion of high frequency ripple in the output current. The M08890G-13 also provides the user with additional dimming functions, such as brightness range control, blanking time control, minimum current control and dimming range control.
The M08890G-13 also provides an adjustable loop gain. This is important to ensure that the LED current is stable and regulated over the wide range of operating conditions. The adjustable gain ensures that the LED current is not affected by sudden voltage spikes or drops, and is gold stable over temperature. The adjustable loop gain is important in applications that require high accuracy of LED current.
In addition, the device also provides a fault protection mechanism. It monitors the typical condition of the output, such as output over current or over voltage faults. If such a condition is detected, the device will turn off the output switch and set the fault protection pin to high. This protection of the system helps to ensure that the application is safe.
Overall, the M08890G-13 is a PMIC - LED Driver device that is well-suited for driving multiple LEDs from a sinewave dimmer, making it an ideal choice for a variety of lighting control applications such as distributed dimming control, street lighting and task lighting. The device provides a wide range of features such as adjustable output current, wide operating temperature range, adjustable output voltage, accurate voltage and current sensing, programmable current limit, a soft-start function, adjustable loop gain and fault protection.
