Tantalum Capacitors

Tantalum capacitors are discrete components used in a wide variety of electronic applications. These components, also known as tantalum electrolytic capacitors, are composed of a tantalum anode, a tantalum oxide dielectric, and an electrolytic salt solution as the cathode.

The working principle of the M39003/01-2255/TR tantalum capacitor is based on the ability of the dielectric material (tantalum oxide) to store electric charge. When a voltage is applied between the anode and the cathode, a large electric field is created, which polarizes the oxide in a process known as “natural diffusion". This causes the electric charge to accumulate at the anode, and the voltage across the capacitor is measured.

When a frequency is applied, the current flows along the anode and cathode with the same frequency. The current is made up of positive and negative charges, and the capacitor stores electric charge as the frequency is cycling and released as the frequency cycles again. This process is known as alternating current. The effect is the same as a filter, as some of the energy is blocked and the rest is passed through the capacitor.
