Tantalum capacitors are surface mount capacitors, developed extreme miniaturization technology. The casings are made out of tantalum, which is coated with oxide. This material makes them both small and efficient.

M39003/01-2307/HSD capacitors, are a special type of Tantalum capacitors. The M39003/01-2307/HSD capacitors are designed primarily for high-temperature and high-humidity applications. The construction of such capacitors uses lesser materials as compared to aluminum electrolytic, and are mainly used in military and aerospace equipment.

The application field of M39003/01-2307/HSD capacitors covers a wide range: space programs, avionics, satellites, aircraft, motor vehicles, and other high temperature and high altitude requirement applications.The specified capacitance range of this type of capacitors is 0,01-2,2µF and the operating temperature of this device is -55°C – +125°C, with surge voltage rating up to 30V.

Working Principle

The construction of M39003/01-2307/HSD capacitors provides them a very favorable energy storage to volume ratio. These capacitors store energy depending on two factors: electric fields that develop in an electrical insulation material between two conductors and electrostatic fields generated in it. These capacitors also take advantage of the dielectric properties of a very thin layer of tantalum pentoxide insulator that is present between the anode and the cathode.

The anode consists of a pellet made from solid tantalum. Electrodes are connected to the anode and cathode. The outer body is also made up of sintered tantalum and a very thin layer of an electrolyte is present in between the anode and the cathode.

When the capacitor is initially depressurized, an extremely thin dielectric layer of tantalum pentoxide is formed. This layer is pressurized when the capacitor is energized. When the capacitor is energized and the two electrodes are connected, a flow of electrons are started from the anode to the cathode through the conducting path. This current of electrons stores energy in the capacitor.

Due to their age and size, these capacitors offer minimal parasitic effects and high reliability. They provide better temperature stability, lower leakage current, superior voltage surge handling capability, wide operating temperature range and very low internal impedance. All of these facts make Tantalum capacitor in general, and M39003/01-2307/HSD capacitors in particular, suitable for different applications.

The M39003/01-2307/HSD capacitors offer an ultra-low profile which is necessary for high-density, next-generation circuit designs. With their low ESR performance, they get optimal high frequency properties while withstanding higher operating temperatures and shocks.
