Tantalum Capacitors

Tantalum capacitors are small and highly efficient components used to store electrical energy, filter unwanted signals, and provide high current pulses with short time duration of each pulse. The M39003/01-2337/TR is an electrochemical capacitor using tantalum and electrolyte with an initial capacitance of 1.5uF, operating voltage of 25V, and temperature range of -55°C to +85°C.

Construction

The M39003/01-2337/TR capacitors consist of a solid tantalum anode plate covered by a dielectric oxide layer. An electrolytic solution is also applied to the anode plate in order to increase the total capacitance. The other side of the anode plate is connected to a titanium foil and leads. These provide electrical connection to the other two plates of the capacitor.

Working principle

The M39003/01-2337/TR capacitors work on the principle of capacitance. This is an electrical property shared by all materials where the electrical capacity of a material is measured by its ability to store electric charges. The capacitance of the capacitor is determined by the area and distance of the plates, and the dielectric material between the plates. The amount of charge that the capacitor can store is proportional to the area of the plates and the dielectric constant of the material between the plates. When a voltage potential is applied to the capacitor, the positive charge collects on one plate and negative charge collects on the other plate, thus creating a capacitance.
