The M39003/01-2602/HSD series of tantalum capacitors are miniature, plastic cased capacitors offering improved electrical, mechanical and thermal characteristics. These capacitors are available in two versions: axial leaded chips and surface-mount capacitors. Capacitance values range from 1.0 pF to 47µF and they are available with operating temperatures ranging from -55°C to +125°C.

The M39003/01-2602/HSD series capacitors are primarily used for applications in military and aerospace equipment. The capacitors are also suitable for use in power supplies, digital electronics, communications systems, and Instrumentation. The capacitors are primarily designed for surface mounting but may also be used on chip carriers and printed circuits.

The working principle of M39003/01-2602/HSD tantalum capacitors is based on the chemical reaction between activated tantalum powder and water vapor. The reaction created an oxide layer on the surface of the capacitor which acts as an insulator. The capacitor is then polarized, which causes a voltage to form between the two electrodes. This voltage then creates an electric field between the two electrodes which is responsible for the capacitance of the device. The capacitance of the capacitor is determined by the size, shape and dielectric material of the device.
